Tips for clean scans
Plain text QRs grow quickly with length — keep messages under ~200 characters if possible
Text QRs are great for offline data: think museum placards, field guides, or repair tags
Pair with a URL QR if you want both a quick message AND a follow-up link
Common questions
How much text can a QR code hold?
Up to ~4,296 alphanumeric characters at the lowest error correction, but capacity drops fast. For long text, link to a hosted page instead.
Is the text encrypted?
No — anyone who scans can read it. Use a URL with auth or a hosted file if you need privacy.

URL QR code
The most common QR code: turn any web address into a scannable link. Drop the URL into a flyer, business card, or packaging and a single scan opens the page — no typing, no typos, no friction.
Email QR code
Encode a mailto: link that prefills the recipient, subject, and body when scanned. Useful for support addresses, contact forms, and "email me about this" signage.
SMS QR code
Encode an sms: link that opens the messaging app with the recipient and body pre-filled. Great for "text us to subscribe", contest entries, and quick customer-service routing.
